The following programs focus upon "walking with" individuals, children and families to bring about significant changes in their lives.
These services are offered in schools, homes, churches and at community sites. They opt to address a number of diverse concerns and
issues and are often offered in collaboration with other community resources to meet the needs of people at risk.
School Based Clinical Program: This program provides
on-site short term counseling and other consultation, education
and prevention services to public and parochial schools. The
major objective is to remove or reduce learning barriers by
promoting healthy behavior and emotional stability within the
school community.
Family Community Outreach: A home based service offering emergency assistance and case management services to high risk
families whose children are enrolled in the preschool sites within the Canton City and Stark County Local School Districts.
Changes and Transitions (C.H.A.T.): Promotes the prevention and early intervention of school adjustment problems,
emotional difficulties, and everyday problems of stress. It is school based.
Girls Together: This program provides group counseling and mentoring services in schools to at risk girls in sixth grade.
The program is offered through the cooperation of Alliance YWCA, Alliance City Schools, Stark County Girl Scout Council, and Community Services.
Western Stark Medical Clinic: A collaborative between Community Services and Massillon Community Hospital, that
offers medical care to uninsured, low-income residents of Western Stark County. The clinic provides physician visits,
prescription assistance and basic testing services.
PEP (Positive Enhancement Program): Serves pre-school children with a wide range of disturbed or disturbing behaviors,
including the withdrawn, phobic child, the child with bizarre behaviors who may hallucinate or engage in obsessive-compulsive
rituals, and the hyper-aggressive child who may be delinquent or pre-delinquent.
Micah's Way: This collaborative between Community Services and Mercy Medical Center promotes health and wellness in
underserved communities by developing and offering on-site services that focus on education and prevention. Using an asset-based
community development approach, residents assist in program/service design, implementation evaluation. Programs and services are
currently offered for children, parents, teens, senior citizens and other adults.
Marriage First Abstinence Education Program: Consists of in-school sessions for area students, special teacher and other
adult presentations, youth and civic group sessions, and a healthy dating presentation known as "Dating Not Mating" (abstinence
only web page at www.factsaboutsex.com). All Marriage First programs are offered free of charge.
